A park in, or adjacent to a city, is a cultured open space. Far from us is the wilderness of the past. The deer, groundhogs and geese that visit our open spaces are only attributed honorary status at best. And when we enter this now-constructed, sacred ground, what can we offer to enhance the peace and neutrality it lays out for our refreshment?
Visible / Invisible invites spect-actors to take part in exercises of how to leave less devastating traces when moving through a green space. Volunteers will be invited to wear a blue or white body suit while frolicking through areas of the Parc Écologique du Millénaire at Université de Moncton.
Using color-keying software, the passage of the figures will appear as DIY ripples of invisibility. The video exercises will be posted online throughout the symposium.
The Symposium d’art/nature: Moncton 2016 is an initiative of the Université de Moncton’s visual arts and sociology departments, the Galerie d’art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen and the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick.
